WOMEN EMPOWERMENT
The 'Gift' Initiative
The 'Gift' Initiative, in the honor of Sylvia Gift Nabukeera, is dedicated to the women around the world who are oppressed and under-educated. We want to help create a better life for them by raising awareness of atrocities faced by these women and finding ways to help support them, finding sustainable opportunities for women worldwide. The inspiration for this initiative also comes from Nicholas Kristof's and Sheryl WuDunn's stirring book, Half The Sky which shows that the most effective way to fight global poverty is to unleash the potential of women.
About Sylvia Gift Nabukeera
Nabukeera was born and raised in Uganda and through determination, capacity and hard work graduated from Luther College in Decorah, Iowa in 2010. For immigration reasons, Sylvia returned to East Africa in June 2011, where she was murdered on June 24, 2011.
