ARTS FOR PEACE

Art therapy session, USA, 2011
The Arts for Peace Initiative, as a part of Paigaam's commitment to empower young people, is designed especially for children with violent pasts or people who live in conflicted areas to enable them to express their emotions through arts (music, art, movements/dance, photos, creative writing, movies, storytelling). This is both to see how conflict has affected their lives and what the prospect of peace is in their lives by starting the process of healing through healthy self-expression using different mediums of arts. The process includes various simple conflict reconciliation, stress management and peacebuilding exercises to help these young children overcome trauma, fears and weaknesses, thus boosting their self-esteem in the process. This makes people aware of the psychosocial ramifications of living in a violent society and helps them learn to cope in a healthy-positive way.
