Art therapy as a part of healing process is a creative and effective way to connect with children and adults to help them express them emotions. In conflicted regions, emotions usually get repressed over time and when they come out, people end up choosing self-destructive ways to free themselves of those emotions. This is both dangerous for their own health and safety. Hence, through this initiative, we teach people how they can use different colors and artistic ways to express different emotions in a positive way, without hurting themselves or others. The process lets people express freely, bringing out their creativity, empowering them at the same time.
Paigaam Peace-Stones: creating symbols of hope, peace, love and serenity
This initiative has been a huge success especially in Kashmir. Being able to understand and express emotions such as anger, hurt, hope and happiness through paint and colors has been positively transformational for many students. Paigaam Peace-stones have been very popular amongst children and adults. Kids have started to make art-journaling a daily part of their lives. The initiative has been quite impactful in terms of creating wide awareness regarding mental health issues in Kashmir. Art definitely is setting people free at an intrapersonal level at least.
