HISTORY and PRESENT
Kashmir, the northernmost state of India that has a prolonged and chronic history of conflict has always been the inspiration behind Paigaam. Paigaam is an Urdu/Persian word that means 'a message' in English language hence the whole name of the organization. Our concept of peace is very much driven from the mental health and inner peace perspective, and has nothing to do with politics.
What started as a health-peace initiative for youth in Kashmir (India), has evolved into a USA-India registered international non-profit, non-governmental and non-political organization today. Our Kashmir-chapter is registered as a Trust under the Indian Trusts Act. Our local partners are The Peace Gong & the JK Yateem Trust.
Currently we offer peace-educational training workshops in USA & India, have a wellness-youth empowerment initiative in Indian-Kashmir, and a cross-cultural Arts for Peace Initiative (including dance, art and photography) for orphans and children with violent pasts in Indian-Kashmir, Pakistan, Angola and USA. For the emancipation and empowerment of women, we started the Gift Initiative under which we are working towards sponsoring education and provide sanitary products for orphans in Uganda.
